Night and darkness in a dream: meaning

What dream books say

Darkness is read as the unknown and what you cannot see yet. Dream tradition treats it less as danger than as the place where things take shape before they show. Walking through the night with no light is linked to uncertainty and to trusting your own sense of direction. A starry night is read as hope and wonder, a night that never ends as a long stretch of waiting or low mood. Being afraid of the dark points to a fear without a name. Dawn breaking after a dark dream is one of the oldest images of relief.
